The Blackwing Graphite Pencil Volume 2 is more than just a pencil; it is a tribute to the power of art to bring about change and transformation in society. This special edition celebrates the role of art in culture, especially during times of change and challenge.
In 1973, art was at the centre of a significant cultural shift. With the withdrawal of US military forces from Vietnam and uncertainty permeating society, art took on a darker tone, reflecting the complexities and challenges of the moment. Films such as "The Exorcist" and albums such as Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon" offered a glimpse into this evolving cultural landscape.
The following year, a new wave of art, represented in works such as Bob Marley's "Chinatown" and "Natty Dread", illuminated the problems of a broken system and provided the tools to understand it. This edition of Blackwing Volume 2 recognises the role of art in reflecting and addressing social problems, allowing the light of knowledge to penetrate the cracks of the darkest places.
Each pencil features a special glow-in-the-dark cracked design, symbolising the duality of art and the challenging realities that inspire it. In addition, it includes our firmest graphite to date, a firm 2X specially formulated for this edition, ensuring a precise and long-lasting writing experience.
The Blackwing Volume 2 is a tribute to the power of art to bring about change and transformation in the world around us. Each stroke made with this pencil is a reminder of the vital role art plays in our society and a celebration of its ability to inspire, question and transform.
